(Introduction) 'While to the discerning printer there is but one Black "colour"-neither grey, nor brown, nor blue, but BLACK, there are nevertheless several distinctive types of Black ink. And it is in the proper selection of an ink most fitted for the job in hand that the experienced printer contributes so much to the richness and lustre of the final result.

The titles which we have given to the inks in this book are mostly self-explanatory; one exception is perhaps the "Neoset" group, whose characteristics of quick-drying and avoidance of set-off are ideally suited to coated arts and chromos, but which can be used to advantage on super-calendered and imitation art.'
