(Introduction) 'Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh. Judges for the 1971 RSCA show trekked in from the westernmost marshes of culture and civilisation. The visual arts were well represented with A/D, photographer and designer present.

The winds of faint praise suggested that at our worst we were merely competent-pedestrian. Good content. At our best, "Good. Very Good." We were praised for coping with environmental problems without seeming self-seeking. Overall a wonderful effort. So many pieces with quality content-meaningful in human values.

On the side of positive damn, "as elsewhere" the writers and A/Ds don't work hard enough to find the message. Or, if found, dedication was lacking to follow through in execution. We were advised to be honest about our worst-for the sake of the craft. And overall, "A wonderful effort expended by many talented individuals."
