(Preface) 'The Pictorial volume of the HANDBOOK OF EARLY ADVERTISING ART has been enlarged by the addition of sixteen plates of pictures taken from Trade Advertisements of the early 19th century. They were selected to give a clear portrayal of both the exteriors and interiors of retail and manufacturing establishments of this period. They also add to the available pictures of machines, instruments, carriages, dress, etc. All of the new material was photographed directly from original prints.'
