(Preface) 'The Best of British is a visual feast of the images that fill our daily lives - that persuade us to buy a product, try a recipe, read a book, explain a process or simply delight and amuse.

It is the first accessible collection of the cream of British photography and illustration in a single volume. The Best of British was compiled under the auspices of the Association of Illustrators and the Association of Fashion, Advertising and Editorial Photographers to provide an easy reference guide to the creativity and diversity of contemporary British image making. It is an indispensable tool for commissioning clients, art directors and others the world over who use, choose, assess and create images.

The 232 full colour illustrations were chosen by a jury of professional artists and art directors from 2500 submissions, while the 112 photographs were selected by the judges of the 1986 AFAEP Awards.

The book has been divided into • separate, easy to use photography and illustration sections. It includes advertising, editorial, technical, print and design, fashion, portrait and book illustration and photography as well as personal, experimental work which reveals the trends that will affect the market in the future.

The Best of British is indexed with the addresses and telephone numbers of all the artists and photographers featured.'
