A history of type faces and the development of printed letters, with a brief history of the Ben Johnson & Co. printing company (London & York). The book is divided into two broad parts: part one covers the selection & use of printing types; part two discusses and presents specimen pages of type faces.
(Preface) The following notes have been collected from various sources over a series of years in the hope that they may be of interest and assistance to users of printed matter. They form an attempt to explain in logical sequence the principles underlaying the selection and correct arrangement of printing types in display.
