(Preface) 'Americans are notoriously in a hurry. We like to take our art "on the run" —and so we must apply it to objects in daily use in our daily lives.
Once it was the privilege of kings to live in beauty and luxury, but today all may surround themselves with handsome, utilitarian products with which we work, and live, and play. Well designed merchandise is only as far away as the supermarket, or the mail order catalog.
Within the last few months the two major Industrial Design societies in the United States have merged, and have been joined by the Society of Industrial Design Educators. Our new organization is called Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and we, of course, plan to join our thinking with Industrial Designers the world over.
With the enthusiasm of youth our new Society salutes our British friends and presents this display representative of Industrial Design in the United States.' Henry Dreyfuss, President / Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA)
