(Introduction/translation) 'Public design - It is the intention of this book to create criticism by giving good examples plead their case and thereby put inferior productions in relief. We have sought out international capacities to let them explain for tasks they have either lost or managed. It has been an editorial principle to emphasise a number of high points, less for these worker's fault, more to illustrate a goal-oriented methodology. The examples should rather be taken as models of solutions than as unambiguous results. And even if only a few episodes had to be played directly under the laser's sphere of interest, it is our hope that the subjects seen together form a faceted mosaic.'
